What is a fascinator?
Simply put a fascinator is a hair ornament affixed to the hair by means of a comb, band or clip. They can be made from virtually any material or colour to suit your outfit. They are usually constructed with silk flowers, a variety of feathers, crystal, diamante, ribbon, rhinestones, netting or just about anything which is light and decorative.
They come in a variety of styles and shapes. They can range from an adornment to a small hat right through to a large display of feathers and gemstones depending on the fashion and affordability of the owner.
They are finding their way into any occasion from the formal wedding fascinator, sporting events such as Race events, Prom nights, parties and nights out. They are extremely versatile, inexpensive and can transform your appearance for very little effort.
Many women now choose not to wear a formal hat and the fascinator provides the perfect alternative.
An easy way to tell the difference between a fascinator and a hat is that a hat sits on the whole surface of the head, whilst a fascinator does not. Also a hat has a brim and a fascinator does not.
A fascinator becomes a miniature version of a hat is perched and secured by a hair band, a thin elastic, a comb it is therefore a fascinator. It does not fit like a conventional hat, and there is nothing conventional about it. Anything goes with a fascinator, it’s not possible to go ‘over the top,’ it is a reason to go over the top.
There is a lot more room for creativity on the tiny fascinators, where anything goes, and the most elaborate the decoration, the better.
