Prince William and Kate (The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) attended a ceremony at Victoria Barracks in Windsor to pay their respects to the 1st Battalion Irish Guards for their hard work in Afghanistan after a 6 month tour of duty where they were deployed in a mission to develop the Afghan Army. Prince William stood to attention during the National Anthem and then both the Duke and Duchess presented operational medals to the soldiers and Elizabeth Crosses to the families of the three servicemen who died. After the medal ceremony they both spent time chatting to the servicemen and their families. Both Prince William and Kate looked very sleek in their black outfits with Prince William wearing the black ceremonial uniform of the Irish Guards to which he was made Colonel earlier this year. Kate wore a double breasted black coat with gold buttons and a golden irish shamrock brooch and finished off the outfit with a stylish black fascinator which sat to one side of her head. Royal Armed Forces Day was held in ceremonies throughout Britain on the 25th June 2011.
